BERKELEY, HEIGHTS, N.J. — A recently certified EMT and high school senior can’t stop smiling after helping to deliver a baby last week.
Eighteen-year-old Nicole Segalini is a member of the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad which arrived at the home of the Windts March 10 to help deliver a baby girl.
Angela Windt said her water broke two weeks before her due date. “I looked at my husband and said, ‘we are not going to make it to the hospital,’” Windt told KETV7.
Segalini, who had become an EMT a few months ago, said she acted as “the catcher” during the delivery.
“They let me run the call and do the patient care,” she said of her colleagues. “I make decisions and they always have my back and teach my everything.”
The squad delivered baby Ava 30 minutes after Windt’s water broke.
“This particular crew — we all know what to do,” EMT Andy Damato told TapInto. “This was so textbook, everything happened exactly the way they show it happens in training.”
The Windts reunited with the squad a week after the delivery, bringing along cupcakes as a thank you.
“This is the best call I have ever gone on,” Damato said. “My friday night crew — I love them.”
