BROCKTON, Mass — A 30-year-old Brockton woman is being charged with assault and battery after police said she attacked and spit on an ambulance worker on Saturday morning, after crossing the center line and crashing her vehicle into another car.
Michelle Jefferson, 30, of 80 Howland St., is being summonsed to court on a charge of assault and battery on ambulance personnel, in addition to driving under the influence and leaving the scene of property damage after a crash at Centre and Howland streets at 11:18 a.m. Saturday, police said. Jefferson is also being charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.
“Jefferson was spitting on and fighting medical workers who were trying to render aid to her,” police said in a statement. “The 30-year-old admitted to EMS that she had five nips and police could smell alcohol on Jefferson.”
Police said a witness told officers that Jefferson’s Chevrolet Equinox was “swerving and weaving” over the double yellow lines before she drove it into his car, slamming into the left side and rear tire of his vehicle. The Equinox had front left bumper damage, police said.
“When we arrived, a female was lying on the street next to a Chevy Equinox, which had damage to its front left bumper,” police said. “The female was Michelle Jefferson, the driver of the Equinox that crashed into a vehicle on Howland Street, moments before she was being treated at the scene by fire and EMS personnel.”
Jefferson was taken to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.
Police said Jefferson is expected to be arraigned at Brockton District Court on the five charges.
