ATLANTA — Police say an accident caused by a wrong-way driver on the Downtown Connector has closed northbound lanes of Interstate 75-85 leading into downtown Atlanta.
The lanes are closed between Interstate 20 and Capitol Avenue near Turner Field following the accident earlier this morning. Authorities say the driver slammed into an ambulance. The wrong-way driver was killed.
Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible or to take Interstate 285. Motorists are being allowed to exit at University Avenue, but traffic is backing up.
The state Department of Transportation says it may be after 8 a.m. before the lanes reopen.
