If you call 911 for a sprained wrist or twisted ankle, you might end up getting a ride to the hospital in a taxi cab instead of an ambulance.
Taxi vouchers are part of a San Antonio Fire Department program that began in January to reduce the amount of time spent on non-critical patients.
EMS goes to about 130,000 calls a year. Of those, about 60,000 are taken to the hospital by ambulance. It takes an average of 45 minutes for an ambulance crew to get a patient to the hospital and back into service. ...
