Paramedics determined he should be hospitalized because he was not breathing well enough to make responsible decision

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A man who barricaded himself in his home Wednesday with a gun after threatening paramedics is undergoing a mental evolution, police say.

The 68-year-old was having trouble breathing when medics were called to his home. Responders said he should be hospitalized because “he was not breathing well enough to make responsible decisions,” according to San Antonio Express-News.

The man refused treatment and pulled a gun on the paramedics, a police spokesman said.

The medics left, and a SWAT team negotiated the man’s surrender after a two-hour standoff, according to the article.

Police are considering a deadly conduct charge for the man.
