BREMERTON, Wash. — A 10-foot-long yellow Burmese python at the Bremerton Bug Museum bit and wrapped itself around an employee’s leg around noon Monday.

Other employees at the museum along Charleston Beach Road placed the woman’s leg into a 5-gallon bucket of water, attempting to make the snake release her leg, according to South Kitsap Fire and Rescue reports.

As South Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters moved the woman to the ambulance, the snake released the woman’s leg from its jaws and raised its head above her leg, according to the fire department.

Firefighters then grabbed the head of the snake and unraveled its body from around the woman’s leg.

Pythons are not venomous snakes, although an open wound from a bite could become infected.

The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to the fire department, while the snake appeared to be unharmed. An employee confirmed that the python was still at the museum on Monday afternoon, but couldn’t answer any other questions about the incident.

The python is part of the free museum’s reptile room, which includes snakes, turtles and other reptiles.
