VINALHAVEN, Maine — A woman responding to a car crash Saturday night escaped injury when her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.
Denise Hopkins, 45, a member of the Vinalhaven ambulance crew, was on her way to a car crash at 7 p.m. on the Calderwood Neck Road when her car slid as it drove around a corner, according to an accident report from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Her 2010 GMC Acadia slid into a ditch and hit a tree on the driver’s side. There was substantial damage to the side of the vehicle and the rear axle.
She was checked by other ambulance personnel but did not require a trip to the hospital.
The crash that she was responding to had occurred minutes before, when a 2012 Dodge truck driven by Carl Gross, 48, of Vinalhaven went off the road and struck a tree, according to the sheriff’s office.
Passenger Karena York, 37, and one of two 16-year-old passengers were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport due to head and back pain.
Deputy Rob Potter said speed may have been a contributing factor considering the road conditions.
Snow was falling Saturday evening.
