McCORDSVILLE, Ind. — More than two dozen people have been taken to hospitals after a crash involving two school buses east of Indianapolis.

The buses from Mount Vernon Community School Corporation collided shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday in McCordsville about 15 miles east of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis television stations report at least 25 people suffered minor injuries. WRTV-TV says some students complained of neck pain or nosebleeds.

Witnesses said the chain-reaction crash occurred after a car slowed to turn into a subdivision. The second bus was unable to stop and rear-ended the first bus.

Officials with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and school district did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

WTHR-TV reports the buses were carrying more than 100 students in grades 5 through 12.
