STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Richmond University Medical Center EMT who was shot while treating a patient is expected to make a full recovery, WABC reported.
Police and EMS were called to the West Brighton Funky Monkey Bar shortly before 8:00 p.m. for a reported disorderly person.
According to police reports, the suspect, Thomas McCauley, 37, walked himself into the ambulance and was answering questions before pulling a handgun.
Charges are pending against McCauley, who reportedly fired a handgun in the ambulance en route to the hospital, striking the 25-year-old EMT in the back of the shoulder.
The EMT’s partner pulled over and McCauley fled before being apprehended by a retired NYPD detective and off-duty Department of Sanitation lieutenant, WABC reported.
The EMT was transported by his partner and is in stable condition at Richmond University Medical Center.
