BRIDGETON, Mo. — A Bridgeton police officer was hurt Monday afternoon when her unmarked police car was rear-ended by an ambulance in slowing rush-hour traffic on Interstate 270 near Page Avenue, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Officer Susan Gibbons, 45, was taken to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center with what the highway patrol called moderate injuries.
Gibbons and the ambulance were not traveling in emergency mode.
Gibbons’ vehicle was struck by an Abbott Ambulance carrying a patient.
The 3:53 p.m. collision pushed her car into the back of a third vehicle.
The patient in the ambulance did not suffer additional injury in the collision, the highway patrol said. No one else was hurt.
Gibbons was wearing her seat belt, the highway patrol said.
