Fire inspector dies from unknown illness
Dan Castrillo was admitted to the hospital over the weekend and passed away a few days later
DAPHNE, Ala. — An Ala. fire inspector died suddenly Wednesday afternoon after being admitted to the hospital over the weekend.
Daphne Fire Department Fire Inspector Dan Castrillo, 42, went into the hospital Sunday after becoming "suddenly sick," according to fire officials and passed away Wednesday.
Doctors have not confirmed the cause of his illness.
Castrillo was a firefighter and paramedic before becoming a fire inspector. He served in the military for 10 years and was an EMS instructor at the University of South Alabama, according to Al.com.
"It will leave a void in the service, but the brothers of the Fire Department are all going to pull together, and we are going to get through this," Department spokesman Tom Walker said.
Castrillo is survived by his wife and three children.
