1. Where did your company name originate from?
Upon returning home from World War II, our founder, Theodore Ziaylek Sr., opened a small machine shop in Yardley, Pennsylvania. There, he invented a drill press that automatically advanced the material and named it the “Ziamatic.”The “Zico” name is a quick and easy combination of Ziamatic and Corporation.
2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
Our founder was a member of the local volunteer fire department and was occasionally asked to use his machine shop to create custom equipment brackets for the trucks. Other departments saw these brackets and asked for some of their own. The business grew from there.
3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
We are best known for our SCBA brackets, wheel chocs, and ladder/portable tank-lowering systems.
4. What makes your company unique?
Safety is paramount in everything we design. Sometimes that means keeping a piece of equipment from shifting or falling, other times it means minimizing dangerous climbing on wet surfaces. And sometimes it’s simply doing the heavy lifting for them to protect their knees and backs. And once we have a design, we go above and beyond to third party test and make sure our products will do what we say they’ll do. Others don’t do that.
5. What do your customers like best about you and our products?
They know that we stand behind our products. That we put our heart and soul into each new innovation. So when they see our name on the side they know they’re getting a quality product as a reasonable price.
6. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
We’re proud to support these men and women putting themselves at risk each day for the sake of others. Knowing that we make their jobs a little bit safer and a little bit easier each day is its own reward.
7. What’s next for your company? Any upcoming new projects or initiatives?
We’re continuing to innovate and push the industry forward. Follow us on social media for news of a few new products coming in early 2021. And, hopefully, we will be back out at the shows again, excited to demonstrate our latest and greatest.
