Operation Shore Rescue recruits and schedules Emergency Medical Service volunteers to fill in for New Jersey Shore EMS members so they can work on rebuilding their lives post Sandy.
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - While Hurricane Sandy relief efforts are back in the mainstream news this week due to the 12-12-12 concert event, many smaller efforts will continue to be made every day for many months to assist those who still suffer from the disaster.
One group, Operation Shore Rescue, is helping struggling EMS agencies. The organization was formed as members of Pennsylvania EMS Strike Team Tango saw an ongoing need for Emergency Medical Services after their deployment to the stricken New Jersey coast was over.
“We forged a plan with the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad to provide replacement volunteers for their squad while their own 60 volunteers recovered from the destruction Sandy brought to their own homes, jobs and lives. Since the time we created the rescue group, over 34 volunteer EMS professionals have committed to 51 twelve hour shifts through the end of the year,” explains Jason Page, Strike Team Tango and PAEMT-B for Operation Shore Rescue. Page was one of the three men who spearheaded Operation Shore Rescue. The other two founders, also of Strike Team Tango, are Paramedic Craig Hall and EMT Christopher Engle.
Page reached out to Aladtec inquiring if the group of volunteers could subscribe to EMS Manager, an online employee scheduling and workforce management system, at a discounted rate. The First Aid Squad receiving assistance serves Seaside Park, Berkeley Township and Seaside Heights. Through a coordinated effort with New Jersey government offices, Pennsylvania EMT’s and Paramedics have been able to obtain certification reciprocity, which allows them to practice EMS in New Jersey. Today, Operation Shore Rescue is still in need of volunteer EMT’s and paramedics to help the New Jersey shore communities.
