KATY, Texas — Firefighters pulled a man and his adult daughter from their burning home after neighbors noticed a fire in the garage and called 911.

ABC 13 reported that prior to firefighters arriving at the scene, the adult male assisted his wheelchair-bound wife out of the house before going back inside to search for his adult daughter.

“The elderly adult female who exited the home before the firefighters’ arrival, her husband, the adult male patient, helped get her out, then reportedly went back in the home to get the adult female out,” Capt. Daniel Arizpe of the Cy-Faire Fire Department said. “At that time, neighbors and Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies helped roll the wheelchair-bound woman to safety on the sidewalk until firefighters arrived.”

When firefighters arrived, they performed a search and rescue operation to retrieve the father and daughter, pulling them out of the house and to safety. Neither had a pulse, and both suffered from smoke inhalation, but fire crews were able to revive both with CPR.

The father and daughter were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The woman in the wheelchair was medically evaluated at the scene.

Helmet footage from inside the home revealed the difficulty of finding victims due to the dangerous amount of smoke in the house, according to the Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office.
