WICHITA, Kan. — A new ambulance in Kansas has been specially designated and equipped to deal with transporting patients with highly contagious diseases.
KWCH.com reported the ambulance was purchased about a year ago in response to the Ebola outbreak. It is designed to transport patients from anywhere in the state.
A team of 16 medics have been trained to work on the ambulance. While treating a patient on the ambulance, there will always be two extra crew members to make sure protocols are being followed.
“The main thing with this team is that we know what to do, that we have someone watching us to make sure every step is followed, that every ‘I’ is dotted, every ‘T’ is crossed, and just to make sure that we have a safe and efficient transport,” said EMS Captain Kyle Burtch.
