Tenn. ambulance becomes airborne, strikes SUV on highway, hurting 6

Putnam County EMS said that all injuries appear to be non-life-threatening and the ambulance crew was not transporting a patient at the time

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — Six people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 40 in Roane County, including three people in an ambulance.

A Putnam County ambulance had three people in it when it left the roadway to go around a slight curve, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The ambulance hit a construction attenuator and became airborne, WBIR reported.

The rig hit a Land Rover when it landed, pushing the Land Rover off the side of the road.

Three people in the Land Rover were also injured.

Putnam County EMS said in a news release that preliminary reports show that all injuries are non-life-threatening, and the injured were transported to hospitals in the Knoxville area.

A patient was not being transported.
