WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A Massachusetts police K-9 found an injured woman who escaped from an ambulance on the ramp from Route 9 to Interstate 495 Tuesday morning, the Boston Globe reported

The woman has been described as troubled and was seen by passing drivers as she ran across a median, according to the New Bedford Guide.

During a search by the Massachusetts State Police and a K-9 team plus local police and their k-9 unit, MSP Trooper Ken Hanchett and his partner, Orry, led the way to the young woman as soon as the dog found his way toward her.

She had sustained serious wounds, which police say may be self-inflicted. Hanchett gave her medical aid, and an ambulance crew transported her to a local hospital. She is expected to live.
