The cardiac monitor is an indispensable piece of EMS equipment. On almost every call we are dispatched to, the monitor accompanies us to the patient's side to be part of the initial assessment and life-saving treatment.

While the term cardiac monitor is still commonly used, the device has evolved to be a multi-functional tool with ALS and BLS applications in cardiac, trauma, respiratory, stroke, pediatrics and all other types of patients we may encounter during our shift.

Because it is used in so many different applicaitons for a wide variety of tasks, the multi-function monitor must be smartly designed, well-built and intuitive to use. The monitor is like a mini-EMT in the sense that it must be ready to work all day, in any environment and in any sort of emergency thrown at it.

This EMS1 guide to purchasing a multi-function cardiac monitor can help you compare products and ask the right questions to find the right solution for your agency.
