Instructor, Emergency Medical Services – Lead Paramedic

*_Employment Terms: *_This job is a full time, benefited, FLSA Exempt-Professional position in the Health Science Division that reports to the Dean of Health Sciences

Salary - Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Five years’, full-time experience, in the field as a paramedic and a minimum of two years’ experience in EMS education. Certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic or Georgia Paramedic License, Current Georgia EMS Instructor Coordinator – Paramedic or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. BLS, ACLS, and ITLS (or PHTLS) instructor certification are required. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum of five years teaching experience in a CoAEMSP accredited paramedic program preferred. Proficiency in preparation and delivery of instruction, advisement, and curriculum development. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students, in a collegial and multicultural environment. Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills. Experience with online learning modalities preferred. Demonstrated flexibility with diverse student population and learning styles; demonstrated experience with a variety of teaching strategies including the use of advanced instructional technologies.

Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom, lab or clinical instruction for credited Emergency Medical Services courses at Gwinnett Technical College. Implements program curriculum to meet state, national and/or accreditation standards. Develops program and syllabi, goals, and objectives. Teaches face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes as needed to provide course delivery and scheduling options that promote student retention and program completion. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests. Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. The Lead Paramedic Instructor is primarily responsible for class instruction, course planning and lab instruction for the Paramedic courses and State of Ga Office of EMS correspondence. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts and participates in college and community activities.

Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

  • Construct training modules, tools, materials, supplies and equipment to comply with local requirement for safety and security needs and in accordance with state and federal work safety standards.
  • Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.
  • Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.
  • Maintain a secure training and work area that proves freedom of movement for students during the performance of work and training assignments and complies with the security requirements of the organization.
  • Ensure work-related projects are successfully completed and that they meet industrial standards.

Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate.

  • Earns required number of CE credits to maintain required industry credentials
  • Participates in education meetings, workshops, etc. as requested.
  • Meet all required organizational and accreditation policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in conducting a self-study of the program's compliance with technical college, program and accreditation standards.
  • Exhibit and model positive work ethics.

Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.
