The Borough of Emmaus is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Paramedic/ PHRN position. The Emmaus Ambulance is a Borough-owned entity with a call volume of approximately 2,000 to 3,000 calls per year. The ambulance is a 24/7 full-service operation with ALS, BLS, and wheelchair transport van. The primary territory covered by the Emmaus Ambulance is within the Borough of Emmaus, a land cover of 2.9 square miles. This consists of approximately 70% of the department’s call volume. The Borough also has primary coverage area of parts of Lower Macungie Township, parts of Upper Milford Township, and parts of Salisbury Township. The Borough also has primary coverage area of a 15 mile stretch of Interstate 476. The Borough has mutual aid and secondary response coverages to all of the aforementioned townships as well as Macungie Borough, parts of Upper Saucon Township, and parts of the City of Allentown. Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Cedar Crest Hospital is located within 5 miles of the Borough of Emmaus and St. Luke’s Allentown Hospital is located within 8 miles of the Borough.

Successful applicants will be at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. The successful applicant will have a valid PA Paramedic certification with at least 2 years of documented experience as a EMT and 1 year of documented experience as a paramedic or an equivalent combination of experience. Additionally, the applicant must have a valid EVOC certification, EMSVO- PA certification, Hazmat Awareness training, CADS certification or equivalent ambulance corps. documentation training, and active BLS and ACLS certifications.

Core competencies include but are not limited to the ability to administer appropriate emergency medical care and evaluation, calculation of weight and volume rations, operation of EMS vehicles and equipment, computer literacy, and effective written and oral communication.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain clearances from the FBI, Patch, Child Abuse history, and motor vehicle records. Additionally, they must be able to pass a physical examination to include the ability to lift 200 lbs. alone or 300 lbs. with assistance onto an ambulance litter from a level surface to an ambulance. The successful candidate must also be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, and crawl on flat or uneven terrain, hear and speak clearly, have adequate distance vision, the ability to withstand extreme cold, heat, and moisture, and work in low light and confined spaces. The successful candidate must be able to relocate to or live within 20 air miles of the Borough of Emmaus within 1 year of hire.
