NY fire department replaces ambulance lost in fatal crash

EMT Barry Miller was killed in the September crash; a colleague said he'd be proud of the new rig

BERGEN, N.Y. – The Bergen Volunteer Fire Department is rolling out a new ambulance to replace the one lost in a crash last September that took the life of EMT Barry Miller.

Thebatavian.com reported the new ambulance is outfitted with the latest technology, including touch screen systems and state-of-the-art safety equipment.

"It’s a wonderful moment for us," said Julie Donofrio, of the Bergen Rescue Squad. "We all do this to give back to the community. We, of course, wish Barry was here, but this was a push from the whole department and something Barry would be proud of.”

The department has been using an ambulance on loan from another department for the past several months. The new rig will be put into service as soon as all of the equipment is transferred into it.
