Send the Christmas spirit: How you can help Nathan Norman

Nathan Norman, who is battling cancer, loves to receive holiday greeting cards from EMS providers

Do you have 5 minutes and a couple bucks?

For most of us, last weekend was a holiday of giving thanks to those we are connected to in our lives, to be grateful for the things we have — a house, a meal, a car.

Some of us spent at least part of the Thanksgiving holiday providing service to our communities as both EMS providers as well as volunteers helping out neighbors, churches and other community projects.

And no doubt some of us spent time in long lines getting our holiday shopping under way and enjoying/detesting the sights and sounds of a highly commercialized event.

Well, here is one opportunity to give the gift of comfort and happiness that won't cost much of  your time and money. Nathan Norman is 6-years-old and was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2009.

Since then, he and his family have been battling the beast, traveling long distances to find treatments that will beat that cancer into remission.

If you haven't had the experience of being with young child this brave, it's really as bad as you can imagine and then some.

It can also be awe-inspiring to see someone this young be so positive and mature. You can read his story here.

So where do you fit in? Nathan loves to receive holiday greeting cards from EMS providers, firefighters and police officers. Hundreds of cards have already been sent.

Why not add to his joy by sending a card of your own? It'll take but a few minutes and only a couple of bucks to make it happen. And it'll make Nathan and his family's day. Not bad for Christmas present, don't you think?

You can send your cards to:

Rustburg, VA 24588

Final note: Fighting cancer is expensive, and often is not covered entirely by health insurance. If you are fortunate to have a little extra this holiday season, consider a donation to Nathan's care, or to a family you know who needs help. A little from many goes a long way.
