NEWTOWN, Conn. — Regionalized emergency dispatch is a hot-button issue in town -- and likely to get hotter -- after two volunteers charged with researching the idea found it can increase public safety and cost savings.

But town leaders and the volunteer researchers agree there's no need to rush a decision.

Former Legislative Council Chairman Jeff Capeci and council member Neil Chaudharywere charged by the Board of Selectmen almost a year ago to investigate regionalized emergency dispatch.
