SALINA, Kan. — An EMT was attacked while responding to Salina Kwik Shop. Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus told the Salina Post that officers and EMTs were dispatched to a report of a person in the restroom who appeared to be in a distressed mental state.

A 25-year-old Salina woman was arrested on a charge of battery for allegedly attacking one of the EMTs while being evaluated.

Legislation has recently been proposed in Kansas to increase penalties for battery against healthcare workers from a maximum of 6 months to up to 1 year of jail time, The Kansas City Star recently reported.
