AUSTIN, Texas — An alleged drunk driver damaged two EMS vehicles and a police patrol car blocking the road during a protest in Texas, authorities say.
The vehicles were blocking the street to provide safety for protesters demonstrating in front of Austin Police Department headquarters on Sunday when the driver reportedly sped through the barricade, striking a police SUV and then hitting the rear of an EMS vehicle, according to FOX 7.
The EMS vehicle was pushed into another EMS SUV as a result of the collision, causing damage to it as well.
Austin-Travis County medics were not inside their vehicles at the time of the crash. A police officer was inside the patrol SUV during the crash but did not sustain serious injuries.
The collision occurred three blocks away from where people were protesting.
The driver, who was not publicly identified, was arrested and faces a charge of DWI.
