GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An athlete who suffered a traumatic brain injury reunited with the paramedics who saved her.
FOX5 reported that Breneau University softball star Kali Shultz spent months in the hospital after she fell off her longboard while home for the summer.
“I remember going to the park, but I don’t remember falling and hitting my head,” Shultz said.
Gwinnett County Fire Department Lt. Dan Staton said the crew “immediately knew that something was seriously wrong” when they arrived on the scene.
Shultz, who said recovery has “been hard,” said one of the first things she wanted to do when she got out of the hospital was to thank the paramedic crew.
“It was really important for me to see them and thank them for what they did,” Shultz said.
The athlete recently paid a visit to the fire station to meet them.
“When she walked in it just made us so happy to see her because the last time we saw her she wasn’t doing well at all,” firefighter-paramedic Dominique Floyd said.
Staton said Shultz’ visit meant a lot to the responders.
