CHOCTAW COUNTY, Okla. — An ambulance was stolen during a medical call in Oklahoma on Sunday, after which the patient died while being transported in a private vehicle.

Choctaw County authorities are searching for the suspect they say jumped into the ambulance while EMS providers were aiding the patient and then sped off before later abandoning the rig, according to The Kansas City Star. Some medical supplies were missing from the rig when it was recovered, officials said.

According to Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park, a family member of the patient drove him to a hospital in Texas about 35 miles away, but he died en route.

The Choctaw County Ambulance Authority released images from inside the rig of the suspect and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office.
