MOON, Pa. — Police in Moon Township said one person has been arrested after shots were fired at two emergency vehicles.

Channel 4 Action News’ Amber Nicotra reported that a police car and an ambulance were struck by some sort of small-caliber gun as the vehicles were driving on the road on Tuesday.

Ryan McCleary, of Evans City, is facing a number of charges in connection with the case. McCleary is accused of hitting a police cruiser’s front passenger window as the officer was in the driver’s seat. The officer wasn’t hurt, but the vehicle’s window was shattered,

Police said McCleary is also accused of hitting the passenger side front door of an ambulance with at least two people inside. No injuries were reported, but the ambulance was damaged.

Police said McCleary fired at them as they passed by a house in the 900 block of Broadhead Road. Police are still trying to determine what type of weapon was used and said it might have been a BB gun. Even though the weapon wasn’t large, officers said it was enough to do significant damage.

“It was enough to penetrate a window, it was enough to ding the door on ambulance. I don’t want to rule out it could be something more than a BB. It’s definitely going to be something very small caliber,” said Sgt. Douglas Busch of the Moon Township Police Department.

Three people who were inside the house at the time of the shooting were taken into custody for questioning and were later released.

McCleary is currently in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges including reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
