NEW YORK — A New York cop linked with a British nurse to an alleged plan to kidnap and eat women was convicted yesterday of plotting to commit cannibalism.
Officer Gilberto Valle, 28, admitted he had a fetish for talking on the internet about eating human flesh.
His lawyers had urged the jury to dismiss his “weird proclivities” as the ramblings of a fantasist but prosecutors said he had taken steps to abduct his wife and at least five other women.
New York’s federal court heard he had looked up potential targets on a restricted database, researched chloroform and turned up near the home of one woman he had agreed to kidnap.
Prosecutor Hadassa Waxman said his arrest around Halloween last year interrupted a ghoulish plan to “kidnap, torture, rape and commit other horrific acts on young women”.
Brit Dale Bolinger, 57, of Canterbury, Kent, was arrested last month after it was revealed he allegedly boasted to Valle that he had eaten two people.
Bolinger, who remains on bail, was said to have told Valle to eat a woman alive. Valle will be sentenced later.
