A two-car crash on Friday near Pittsburg, Kan., resulted in the death of a Liberal man, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s department. Two other people sustained serious injuries.
According to a statement issued by the sheriff’s department, officers responded to the accident at 5:39 p.m. east of U.S. Highway 69 on Kansas Highway 171.
Timothy Strevens, 36, of Liberal, Mo., was traveling west on Highway 171 and attempted to pass another vehicle before losing control of his vehicle due to slick pavement.
His car was struck on the driver’s side by an eastbound vehicle driven by Shawn Anderson 22, of Bartlesville, Okla.
Strevens was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anderson, and a passenger, Samantha Anderson, 21, also of Bartlesville, were taken to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s department. A third person in the Anderson vehicle, Benjamin Leavitt, 20, of Mound City, Kan., was treated at the scene and released, but details were not available late Saturday night.
