KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Police arrested a man Sunday who allegedly stopped an ambulance that was transporting a patient, forcing entry into the vehicle and searching for drugs, WVLT reported.
According to a police report, Mark Denton, 44, flagged down an AMR ambulance at about 11 p.m. The EMS provider who was driving stopped and asked him what was wrong, and he said he had cut his toes with a lawnmower.
While the EMS providers were telling the man they could not transport him, he opened the ambulance doors, the report states.
When police officers arrived, they detained him and said he was unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech.
Denton later reportedly told first responders that he actually cut his toes in 1971 and did not need help.
He was changed with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
