PINEVILLE, La. — A man was arrested Wednesday morning after attempting to steal an ambulance from a station.
Christopher Farque, 43, pulled into the parking lot of the Acadian Ambulance station, where he stated he worked for the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office and asked to drive one of the ambulances to pick someone up. The crew told him he could not.
Before arriving at the ambulance station, Farque previously attempted to steal a vehicle that was pulled over on the freeway. The victims were able to drive away and call 911.
As Farque turned to return to his vehicle, crew members saw what they thought was a gun in his waistband, reported KALB.
The crew retreated to the back of the station for safety and requested assistance via Acadian’s dispatch center. Police arrived on scene and took Farque into custody.
“The safety of our crews are paramount to Acadian and we commend the crew members for their calm and professional response to this situation,” C. Randall Mann, Acadian public relations vice president said.
Farque was charged with carjacking, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, attempted simple escape and battery on a police officer.
