CHADDS FORD, Pa. — A Pennysylvania paramedic has returned home after more than two weeks of treatment and rehabilitation following a serious ambulance crash earlier this month.
Crozer Health EMS Lt. Nick Scull, 39, was escorted from Taylor Rehabilitation center by fellow first responders on Friday, and arrived home to a warm welcome from friends, family members and colleagues, according to the Delco Daily Times.
Scull was seriously injured when his ambulance collided with a school bus on Oct. 6; Scull’s partner Lt. Joshua Boylan, a nurse on the ambulance and the driver of the school bus were also injured in the crash. Boylan has since recovered and returned to duty. There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash.
Scull had become trapped after the collision needed to be extricated, officials said. Crozer Health EMS Chief Bruce Egan said he made a promise to Scull on the day of the crash.
“I told him that day when he was trapped inside the wreckage of that ambulance, we made eye contact and I said we got you and we’re going to take care of you,” Egan told the Daily Times. “When we were coming down the elevator today I said, ‘Nick we got you, taking you home.’”
Egan added that Scull said he is looking forward to returning to work when he fully recovers.
