DEARBORN, Mich. — An automaker company debuted a ride service that transports non-emergency patients to the hospital.
Xconomy.com reported that Ford Motor Company partnered with the Beaumont Health network in Michigan to launch GoRide, an on-demand ride service that allows healthcare providers to schedule rides for non-emergency patients.
The fleet currently consists of 15 vans that are operated by professionally trained drivers, and the fleet is expected to expand throughout the year.
Appointments can be made up to 30 days in advance, and patients can be transported to any of Beamont Health’s 200 medical facilities in the state, according to CNET.
Ride fees will be anywhere from $45 to $60 and should be covered by most insurance plans.
“There’s no excuse for the fact that so many people have trouble simply making it to their medical appointments,” Ford’s Mobility Business Group vice president Marion Harris said. “By merging our expertise in vehicles, technology and human-centered design, we’ve created a high-touch, patient-focused service that truly understands and is tailored to patients and their needs. Our service is focused on multiple social determinants of health, and delivers the quality of care and on-time certainty that medical facilities need in order to increase throughput and reduce wait times.”
