JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — City first responders saw an increase in the number of overdose calls placed by residents during 2020.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department reported 5,050 overdose calls last year, up from 4,140 calls in 2019, and 2,417 in 2018, WJXT 4 reported.
Capt. Eric Prosswimmer said the amount and type of calls are no longer unusual.
“In the past five years, it has become sadly second nature,” he told WJXT 4.
