PETERBOROUGH, N.H. — Police are investigating a report that a woman who became ill while hiking in Miller State Park Sunday afternoon may have overdosed on drugs.

State conservation officers, as well as members of Peterborough Fire and Rescue and the Peterborough Police Department went to the park after being called about the possible drug overdose, according to a news release from N.H. Fish and Game.

The hiker, a 20-year-old woman from Boston was on the Wapack Trail with three friends when she became lethargic and couldn’t walk or talk, the news release said.

The friends became concerned and called for help, according to the news release.

Emergency responders didn’t know the woman’s condition until they were able to make contact with her on the trail, authorities said. She was able to walk up the trail with assistance to an awaiting ambulance after being evaluated, the news release said.

She was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital for further evaluation, authorities said.

Peterborough police are investigating the incident for possible future charges, the news release said.
