CHEYENNE, Wy. — A House of Representatives committee approved a bill Thursday to allow paramedics and emergency medical technicians to begin working in Wyoming without having to wait for a criminal background check to finish processing.
Senate File 136 would empower the Wyoming Department of Health and its public health division to create new rules and regulations related to EMT licensing. Specifically, it would allow the division to provide conditional licenses to EMTs and paramedics who have fulfilled all other requirements related to employment, except the criminal background check.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Dave Kinskey, R-Sheridan, told the House Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Committee that the bill was needed to deal with a shortage of EMTs and paramedics across the state.
