WASHINGTON — The White House appointed an official to act as “opioid czar” and coordinate the federal government’s response to the opioid epidemic.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway will supervise White House efforts to fight the opioid epidemic.

“The president has made this a White House priority,” Sessions said. “He’s asked her to coordinate and lead the effort from the White House. She understands messaging, and we’ve got to change the perception in this country and try to reduce, through prevention, addiction in that regard.”

“The problem is very complicated, and currently we’re on the losing side of this war,” Conway said in August, according to ABC2.
