HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas — A former administrator for a privately owned ambulance company admitted in a settlement agreement that he took nearly $195,000 from the company, the Progress Times reported Saturday.

Edgar Diaz had been an administrator for Hidalgo County EMS, which declared bankruptcy protection in 2019 and closed last year.

The misappropriation of funds began as early as January 2018, the agreement states.

Diaz has said he would pay back the money within two years, and his mother guaranteed the agreement.

Two other top administrators also pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud charges and agreed to pay back the money.
