BOSTON —A jury awarded $1.5 million to the family of a patient who died when an ambulance crew dropped her head-first on the ground more than six years ago.
American Medical Response, the largest ambulance company in Massachusetts and the United States, was found responsible Monday for the death of 67-year-old Barbara J. Grimes.
The ambulance crew was transporting Grimes after she received dialysis on Jan. 31, 2009. Grimes was dropped as the crew rolled her on a stretcher that tipped over. The Pembroke woman died five days later from a brain bleed.
