GLENPOOL, Okla. — Ambulance company EMS Plus shut its doors without notice, leaving 30 employees without a job.
Employees were given only few hours of notice. Deanna Schonfield got a call from a co-worker while Christmas shopping on Wednesday.
“They said, ‘Well, you might want to curb your shopping. We are closing the doors at 2 p.m.,’” Schonfield told News On 6.
EMS Plus owner Matt Davis said the company had to close because its insurance lapsed. They had started the paperwork too late and missed the deadline.
City manager Roger Kolman said the company was given until noon Wednesday to provide proof of insurance and it didn’t provide it.
Two weeks ago, News on 6 reported some EMTs and paramedics from the company had their paycheck bounce because of insufficient funds.
The 30 employees should receive their last paychecks next Wednesday.
“I’m having my doubts we will ever see it,” Schonfield said.
