Ohio county medics to unionize

Coshocton County paramedics and EMTs filed notice to join the International Association of Fire Fighters

COSHOCTON, Ohio — Coshocton County EMS providers are working to join the International Association of Fire Fighters.

The Coshocton Tribune reported the county’s full-time paramedics and EMTs filed notice to unionize Dec. 22, and proposed to call themselves Coshocton County Professional EMS Association, IAFF Local #5078.

The union would represent the county’s 38 full-time paramedics and EMTs, but not those who work part time, nor the supervisors and administrative employees.

IAFF field representative Mike Taylor said the majority of employees voted to unionize. Now the county is requesting a vote to elect a bargaining unit, which should happen after Jan. 25.
