LONDON — U.K. emergency officials said 63 youngsters between the ages of 12 and 17 together with 10 adults were evacuated from the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland after being stranded by poor weather.
The UK Coast Guard said the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service began receiving reports of a large number of people caught out in inclement weather at about noon on Wednesday.
“Most of those are being walked down the mountain to safety, but up to 20 people may require stretcher evacuation, as they are suffering from exposure,” the Coast Guard said.
The Ministry of Defense later issued a statement saying the group included military cadets.
Coast guard said in a social media post that all members of the group have been accounted for. Search and rescue helicopters are on the scene.
