WACO, Texas — A paramedic who was seriously injured after being struck by a drunk driver and pinned against an ambulance is set to be transferred to a recovery hospital.
KWTX reported that Rory Barros has undergone 13 surgeries, with synthetic skin grafts covering his wounds.
“We were told not to expect a high percentage of the skin to take. We were not expecting 100 percent of the skin to take but it did,” Barros’ wife, Amy, said.
Barros is in good spirits about the progress he is making. His transfer to the long-term recovery hospital comes after spending nearly seven weeks in intensive care.
In October, Barros will undergo skin graft surgery as well as an operation to repair his broken legs.
