BOSTON — Twelve people, 11 of them Boston firefighters, were taken to local hospitals Friday afternoon when noxious fumes from cleaning supplies triggered a Level 3 Hazmat situation at a five-story rooming house in the South End.
Boston firefighters were called to 1740 Washington St. at about 12:15 p.m. Friday, the department said in a tweet. The building was evacuated after firefighters investigating the hazardous-materials report determined the cause of the odor was from a mixture of bleach and Murphy’s Oil Soap on the third floor, fire officials said.
