Hendersonville, N.C. — A member of the Henderson County Rescue Squad is getting support from her colleagues after she was severely injured in a motorcycle crash.
WLOS reported that Pat Stefan, 69, a longtime rescue technician and EMT, was riding her motorcycle when she collided with another vehicle and was thrown 20 feet from the bike.
Stefan broke her femur, pelvis and tailbone and suffered a brain bleed. She was airlifted to the hospital and has had three surgeries, and is on a ventilator.
“Right now, she has several severe fractures, especially to her wrist. That one is so severe she will lose a lot of range of motion that will probably not allow her to return to work in the EMS field,” Assistant Chief Adam Justus said. “She’s a mother here for many of us. She’s just a fun outgoing individual.”
To show their support, her colleagues set up a GoFundMe account to help with her growing medical costs, and they have raised almost $5,000 in two days.
“Almost 13 years now, Pat has dedicated her life to helping others. So, we’re asking folks to help her in her time of need,” Justus said.
Stefan is expected to spend six months in a rehabilitation center, and will be confined to her bed or wheelchair.
