ALBANY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Delaware woman was in critical condition today after tumbling 30 feet down a cliff of the Pinnacle along the Appalachian Trail in Albany Township Saturday.

Lara Louise Kadambi, 38, of Wilmington, Del., was with a group hiking the northeastern Berks County vista when she lost her balance and fell, said Kempton Fire Chief Matthew Brett.

Kadambi sustained severe head injuries from the fall, according to state police in Hamburg.

Kadambi was transported by an emergency medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown.

As of 5 p.m. today, hospital officials said she was still in critical condition.

The fire company got the call about the accident at around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Brett said.

It took a team of specially trained Kempton volunteers 45 minutes to get on the mountain since no roads lead directly to the Pinnacle.

The team needed an additional half-hour to get Kadambi up the cliff, then carried her on a stretcher to the helicopter.
