MANASQUAN, N.J. — The chief engineer at Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company died Thursday following a training drill.
Daniel McCann III, 51, reportedly “fell ill after training … while at home and was unable to be revived,” Fire Marshal Chris Barkalow told Asbury Park Press.
“The department’s saddened, the Borough of Manasquan is saddened,” Chief Barkalow said. “It’s an untimely death and obviously it’s tough to deal with.”
The 27-year veteran, who became an EMT at the age of 18, also served as a full-time EMT for the Nutley Volunteer Emergency and Rescue Squad. McCann formerly worked as an EMS captain with the Kearny Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad. He met his wife 20 years ago while working at the North Arlington Volunteer Emergency Squad.
McCann, who died on his birthday, is survived by his wife, parents and two sisters.
Funeral services for McCann will take place Sept. 21 and is open to the public.
