SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sioux City Fire Rescue paramedics will get some more pay in their pockets as a result of City Council action on Monday.

The council unanimously amended its three-year contract with the Sioux City Fire Fighters Association, Local 7, which it approved Feb. 8. Under the change, firefighters who obtain EMT-P (paramedic) certification will receive an extra 5 percent of the Master Firefighter pay scale.

That will amount to $3,045 a year for each paramedic, Bridey Hayes, human resources director, said. The pay raise is retroactive to July 1. The department has 16 paramedics, with plans to increase that number to 30, Fire Chief Tom Everett said.
