ABILENE, Kan. — A 5-year-old rural Abilene girl was killed Wednesday in a farm accident involving a combine, Sheriff Gareth Hoffman said.
Hoffman said emergency responders were called to a soybean field in the area of 3400 Avenue and Key Road in the north end of Dickinson County at about 5 p.m.
He said Brooklyn Debenham had been riding in the cab of the combine with her father, Brian, when the combine hit a bump or some type of obstacle. He said the windshield of the combine shattered, and the child fell through the glass and landed on the machine’s header.
Hoffman said emergency medical personnel from Abilene and Enterprise responded, and a Lifestar airplane was en route, but Brooklyn died in the field.
